Specialist Orthodontist
Rhu has been a Specialist in Orthodontics since 2002, and worked full time in orthodontics since 1999 when he started his Post-Graduate Orthodontic training at Bristol dental Hospital. He graduated in Dentistry at Glasgow in 1995 with a certificate of merit in Orthodontics in the same class as his wife Jane. Rhu worked in general practice then Maxillo-facial surgery while he achieved his Fellowship in Dental Surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998. He won a place on the three year Specialist Orthodontic training program in Bristol and Exeter, completing the Orthodontic Specialty exam (M.Orth) in Edinburgh in 2002. Rhu has worked both in Orthodontic practice and as a locum consultant. He has been based in Dundee (Jane’s home town) since 2005 where he and Jane launched Beam Orthodontics. Since opening beam has won multiple awards including Bests specialist Practice in scotland three times running, and Best service business 2015 in the Courier business awards.
Rhu has been a certified Invisalign user since 2007 and uses Invisalign regularly as one of the treatment options available in his clinic, alongside conventional fixed braces and lingual (hidden) braces. Since starting Beam Rhu has been an active member of the Scottish orthodontic specialist group, was previously the lead clinician of the Tayside orthodontic managed clinical network, and sits on both the Tayside area dental committee and the Tayside local dental committee. Rhu has been a member of the British Orthodontic society since 1999 and regularly attends the annual British Orthodontic conference. More recently he has also attended the 2015 American Orthodontic Conference in San Francisco and the 2016 European Orthodontic congress in Stockholm.
